Penny Sturtevant is in her 30th year as an educator and her 9th year as an administrator. She has worn many different hats along the way, including 1 year as a special needs teacher to mental health students in an institutional setting, a 7-12th grade science teacher in a small rural school, and as a school counselor for 14 years. In her time as an administrator, Penny has been a secondary assistant principal, a middle school principal, and currently serves as a career readiness Coordinator for her district. Penny is married to a social studies teacher, James Sturtevant, and together they have three children, one grandchild and one on the way. Penny is passionate about helping students and staff achieve success.

An experienced educator who has led a number of private institutions for nearly 30 years, Jim Power is the 13th Head of Schools of Culver Academies. Culver Academies is a college preparatory boarding high school comprised of Culver Military Academy and Culver Girls Academy. The Academies’ enrollment consists of 800 students from 38 states and 23 countries.

A native of Philadelphia, Power previously served as the Principal of Upper Canada College in Toronto, serving in this role since 2004. Before his time at UCC, Power was the Headmaster of Georgetown Preparatory School near Washington, D.C., from 1993 until 2004.

Power holds a BA in English from the College of the Holy Cross. He also was awarded a Master of Arts Degree from Boston College in English and a doctorate (Ed.D.) from Boston University in Educational Leadership.

Jon Harper is currently the assistant principal at Sandy Hill Elementary School in Cambridge, Maryland. This is his sixth year serving as an assistant principal at the elementary level. Prior to becoming an administrator, Jon served as a Math Coach and an elementary school teacher. During his ten years as a classroom teacher he taught first, second, fourth and fifth grades. During Jon’s sixth year teaching he earned the National Board Certification, which he held for ten years. Dr. Simon Breakspear is a researcher and expert in educational innovation and change based in Sydney, Australia. He is known internationally for helping educational leaders navigate disruptive change, develop innovation capabilities and drive continuous improvement for better learning. Simon is a Research Fellow at The Education University of Hong Kong's Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change, and he is the Executive Director of Agile Schools. He has advised and spoken to school and system leaders in over 10 different countries. Jim Knight is the President of the Instructional Coaching Group and a research associate at the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning and the Director of the Kansas Coaching Project. For nearly two decades, Jim has studied professional learning and instructional coaching and has served as the principal investigator of grants and contracts totaling nearly 30 million dollars. Eric Ewald is going into his fifth year as an elementary school principal and this will be his first year as building principal at James Van Allen Elementary, a PK-6th grade school that is a part of the Iowa City Community School District. Prior to becoming a principal, Eric was a School Administration Manager and prior to that he taught 6th grade Language Arts. His wife is a first grade teacher and his son is getting ready to start kindergarten, which gives him a whole new perspective in his role as a school administrator.

Jeremy Adams is a high school teacher, college professor, author, and frequent educational speaker from Bakersfield, California. In April of this year, Rowman & Littlefield published his second book, The Secrets of Timeless Teachers: Instruction that Works in Every Generation. Dr. Ryan B. Jackson recently accepted a position as the Executive Principal of Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, TN and was previously an assistant principal in an inner-city high school located in Nashville, TN. Before serving in a leadership role, Jackson was a high school English teacher, where he started his school’s first AP Language & Composition program and revived a student-centered, student-produced school newspaper.

Marie Criste is currently the Coordinator of Instructional Technology for the Roseville Joint Union High School District with over 10,000 students and 550 teachers outside of Sacramento, California. Marie has been in the education field for 17 years, starting as a middle school teacher and then moving to high school before being promoted to her current position where every day she encourages teachers to take risks and integrate technology as a tool to provide an engaging, collaborative, and enriching learning environment for all students.

Marie is a Google Certified Educator, and serves on the CapCUE Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the Gold Country Regional CETPA Group.
